Boqueron at Sunrise!!!
It’s only Anthony Green’s second day on the island, and we’ve already kicked off some pretty extreme flying adventures. Today’s first mission took place at sunrise on the grounds of Freddy Rental in Boquerón, Cabo Rojo. Freddy kindly allows us to use his land, and we’re truly grateful for the opportunity.
Present this morning were Edgardo Rivera, Darwin Hernández, Nixon Porrata, Luis Ruiz, and of course, Anthony Green — an impressive lineup of skilled pilots. Adventures? Absolutely. Edgardo somehow managed to fly all the way to the town of Sabana Grande! Nixon followed behind, but strong winds in one area kept him from making it all the way. Those two are always pushing each other with friendly challenges.
Meanwhile, Darwin took out the Typhoon paraglider, a new model from the folks at BGD, and headed out to fly the valley alongside Anthony. Anthony spent the flight capturing photos and video of the glider that will later be used for promotional material.
A Visit to Anthony’s Boat
After our early-morning flights and a well-earned breakfast, our second stop was Anthony’s boat, anchored at the Mayagüez pier. We enjoyed a variety of great experiences there — including some freshly caught lobsters courtesy of Anthony.
Arrival at Villa Pesquera, Isabela (PM) — With 30 mph Winds!
By the afternoon we made it to Isabela, but the winds were extremely strong — too strong to enjoy flying, even for the experienced pilots on site. Still, if anyone was going to try, it was Edgardo Rivera.
He pulled out his Ozone paraglider, but Luis Ruiz suggested he use the faster Sky Z Blade instead. After evaluating the conditions, Edgardo decided to go for it. Below is a short video of the attempt. He was definitely flying at the limit (winds at 25 mph with gusts surpassing 30 mph+).
