Sunday, July 03 and Monday, July 04, 2022 – Windy Season but we made some flights….

We took a break for the first days of July. There was not much to do due to the strong winds that were affecting the whole island.

Sunday, July 03, 2022…

We tried to carry out some Demo flights in the Isabela area. Stephanie Rivera and Miguel arrived from Jayuya, while Edgardo Martorell arrived from Mayaguez. Winds were at 22 mph+ before 8 AM and climbing up, so, we had to postpone those flights pending of better conditions.

In the afternoon, Luis made a short fly in Pico de Piedra Beach in Aguada where the wind direction was coming from NNW.

Monday, July 04, 2022…

Day that the Independence of the USA is celebrated. The conditions had not changed much. Very strong winds continue to affect all the island.

This time, the pilot Darwin Hernandez met with Edgardo Rivera and Samuel Travis at sunrise in Lajas Valley. The wind intensity was at zero mph so, they had good conditions for fly .

Darwin and Edgardo were practicing their tandem flight Take Off. In zero wind condition is very difficult to make this takeoff 🙄. After a couple of practices, they gave up on the idea and went solo flying around before the weather gets bad on them.

Trying with the Paraglider…

After their flights in Lajas, they moved to the Rincón area. Lucky for them, there’s a short window of winds coming from the West. They managed to Take Off for some minutes and fly over the Coast. At some point they flew close to a manifestation that was taking place on the coast due to the construction of a fence.

Meanwhile, Luis Ruiz arrived at the Villa Pesquera Isabela flight area. The wind as expected was at over 20 mph+. As happened in previous years, the idea was to fly over the activities of the 4th of July at Jobos and surrounding beaches.

For this exigent flight, Luis used a reliable Paramotor Fly Products Eclipse with Vittorazi Moster engine. The paraglider was a fast 18 meter BGD Luna 2 glider, which can fly up to 50mph+ if needed. Luis had to hurry because after 10:30 AM the wind would continue to gets more hard and turbulent.

At 9:30 AM Luis requested permission to the Airport (BQN) to access Jobos Beach that was into the Radio distance of 4.5 miles of the Tower of the Airport. Due to the heavy winds, and in a matter of minutes he was already flying over Jobos and the entire coast.

Videos and photos were taken, but as Luis expected, conditions for flying were deteriorated minute by minute. His flight duration did not exceed 40 minutes.
