We continue this week with Kent’s training. He and his wife Amy are amazed by the island — and that’s the idea, for them to get to know the beauty of our island. Here’s a short summary of this week’s adventures:
Monday, October 13, 2025 (Posa Teodoro, Isabela)
Winds between 12 and 20 mph were the norm for the day. Luis Ruiz was accompanied by pilot Nixon Porrata, who was also assisting with Kent’s training. Today, Kent worked on refining his skills in controlling the paraglider in relatively strong winds.
In addition, Luis Ruiz took him on an Tandem introductory flight, and that was his first experience flying with a paramotor.
By the afternoon, the rain arrived, bringing the day’s activities to an end.
Tuesday, October 14, 2025 (Posa Teodoro, Isabela)
The best weather of the week — steady winds at 10 mph all day. This was put to good use during Kent’s training, as he practiced until 3 PM, when finally his body was already exhausted. We’re now seeing great progress in his control of different paragliders. On this occasion, we switched him between wings of various sizes so he could observe and correct their different behaviors. Paragliders of 14, 18, and 26 meters were used today.
Wednesday, October 15, 2025 (Posa Teodoro, Isabela)
This time, the weather took a turn for the worse. After taking advantage of yesterday’s excellent conditions, today the winds shifted, now coming from the south and bringing turbulence. Nixon Porrata again joined Luis for Kent’s training, but just 15 minutes of practice were enough before deciding to cancel. The conditions were used instead for some theoretical advise, to emphasize when it is and isn’t safe to practice the sport, as well as to discuss other technical matters.
At lunch time, Luis Ruiz and Nixon stopped at a Restaurant, and without any plans, the friend and pilot Wilkins “Chino” Morales, stopped by, directly comes from the Airport, returning from the Utah Paramotor Event. What a coincidence…
Thursday, October 16, 2025 (Postponed Due to Rain)
We plan, but God decides. We had training scheduled, and if that wasn’t possible, we intended to do other activities. However, the weather didn’t cooperate — it rained basically all day across the entire island. The speed and progress we had made up to Tuesday were slowed down over the past two days.
Friday, October 17, 2025 (Kayaking in La Parguera, Lajas)
The bad weather continued, but this time, we came up with and carried out an excellent Plan B. Luis Ruiz and his family joined Kent and Amy for a morning of kayaking around the La Parguera area in Lajas.
They had such a great time with our friend Gaby Camacho from Kayaking Parguera that Kent and Amy decided to come back that night to repeat the adventure — this time to enjoy the bio-luminescent bay.
In the afternoon, between kayaking adventures, we met up at Villa Pesquera in Añasco, where some practice was done and technical details were reviewed in preparation for Kent’s upcoming first “solo” flight.
