November 04 – 06, 2025, When “EL DEMENTE” met NIXON, OMG!!!…

We made the most of it with flights in Isabela and Boquerón—though, as you can imagine, getting airborne came with its own set of challenges…

Ideal flying conditions in Isabela. That morning, Luis Ruiz went flying with his former student—and now pilot—Scott Sansone. Scott joined Luis on a couple of flights, taking advantage of the great weather to explore areas he hadn’t flown before. Luis even landed at Jobos while Scott enjoyed flying around the area.

Here are some videos from that adventure.

Wednesday, November 5, 2025… (EDGARDO and NIXON Stories, OMG!!!)

This day turned out to be full of adventures.

Luis Ruiz, Edgardo Rivera, and Nixon Porrata planned to meet bright and early on José Sánchez Sr.’s property in the Lajas Valley. They were ready to take off at 6 AM!!! But… the grass was tall and wet, making a safe launch (and posterior landing) way too difficult.

So, Plan B kicked in quickly—before we lost the morning flyable weather window. We headed to the traditional Lajas airstrip… but conditions were just as bad. Now, Plan C, A Last-minute decisions led us to Freddy Rental’s land in Boquerón, where the wet grass wouldn’t be an issue. The only catch? We hadn’t notified Freddy and he need to open the door… Time was ticking… and we still needed his permission… Upon arriving, we waited for Freddy while debating whether to head all the way to fly in San Germán instead. Luckily, Freddy showed up within five minutes and gave us the green light to fly.

The debate… Boqueron or travel to San German?…
Finally, at Boqueron getting ready for the Take Offs…

The wind was cero or very light, making takeoffs tricky. Nixon had big plans—he wanted to fly all the way to Guánica and Guayanilla towns, more than 20 miles+ away. But we had been loosing a lot of time moving from one place to other, and first, we actually needed to get off the ground… and that wasn’t happening easily. CHECK IT OUT…

The Plans would be different if they don’t manage to Take Off… A challenge situation!!!

After several attempts, Edgardo finally took off, followed by Nixon. They immediately headed toward Lajas. Luis, who had been recording their takeoffs, managed to launch right after them. Nixon and Edgardo reached Lajas and continued into the mountains of La Parguera toward Guánica, while Luis stayed in the valley and soon lost visual contact with them. These two pilots were in a mission…

Nixon flying over Gilligan Island at Guanica!!!

After about 45 minutes, Luis landed back in Boquerón. and started waiting for the pilots. But No sign of Nixon or Edgardo, though Nixon had just posted a Live video from the Guánica area. They were taking their time, and Luis needed to leave soon for a previous commitment in Isabela.

Luis goes out, and a few minutes later, Edgardo arrived to land in Boquerón. Thermals were kicking in, but he managed to do a good landing. Luis was in phone contact with him, and Edgardo said he’d turned back early and didn’t know where Nixon was.

Just then at the moment, Luis received a call from Nixon
OMG…Had he landed at other place? Some problems?…”

Nope Nixon had arrived in Boquerón but at a different altitude and from there was calling Luis!!!. Her was at 5,000+ ft high. So Edgardo couldn’t see him until Luis told him to look up. Nixon said the winds at altitude were so strong it felt like he was flying backward—literally moving in reverse! He eventually descended and landed safely.

Returning to Boqueron at over 5,000ft. Surely at over 50 mph+ with heavy downwind winds. OMG !!!

Later that day, everyone met up with Luis again in Isabela, where he gave an introductory flight to Antonio, originally from Peru, who was celebrating his birthday.

Antonio from Peru, celebrating his birthday, Mission accomplished.

But is worth mentioning that Edgardo and Nixon keep on a mission. They arrived and were flying this time to the East, in the case of Edgardo, he managed to fly all the way to Hatillo, were he land and lunch at Chick Fil a. Nixon, this time just fly to the Guajataca Tunnel.

Edgardo returning to Isabela after lunch at Hatillo…

WHAT A DAY. GOD BLESS!!!

Just like on Tuesday, Luis Ruiz went out flying in Isabela with Kristiano—another former student and now pilot. Together they explored a route Kristiano had never flown before. Nixon Porrata also showed up and spent some time flying around the area.
