Stormy winds continued throughout the weekend. This time, our plan for dealing with the weather—if we wanted to fly —was to take advantage of the calmer mornings to fly in the Añasco Valley, from the private airstrip of our friend and fellow Team Kamikazes pilot, Berto García.
At sunrise, we had at least a small window of opportunity for flying, and with a bit of luck, we could enjoy flights lasting anywhere from one to one and a half hours. The flying days were Sunday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 26—the day young Noah Enrique officially celebrated his 11th birthday.
Pilots Present
- Luis Ruiz, his wife Jessica, and their sons Ian Darrell and Noah Enrique
- Berto García and his son Michael
- Javier González
- Nixon Porrata
- Fio López
The morning of Sunday, May 24, served as a testing day.
Luis Ruiz took out his personal trike, which does not get flown very often, while Berto García also brought out his trike for some air time. Meanwhile, Fio López arrived and continued refining his takeoff skills in light-wind conditions.
Noah’s Surprise Birthday Celebration
Tuesday, May 26, turned out to be a very special day. Once again, we had arranged to return to Añasco for some early morning flying, but this time there was an extra reason to celebrate—Noah Enrique on his birthday.
A surprise celebration had been organized for him. His mother Jessica and his older brother Ian were there to share the experience, flying alongside him. Joining them was Michael Acevedo, one of Noah’s childhood friends. Pilots Nixon Porrata, Javier González, and Fio López were also present to help make the day memorable.
Special recognition goes to Berto, who is always willing to go the extra mile. He arranged for a birthday cake to be prepared for this unforgettable occasion. Thank you, Berto—we are eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity.
He also took student pilot Javier González on flights around the area. Javier is now very close to completing his first SOLO flight, an important milestone in every pilot’s journey.
