Sunday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Windy days is what has been last two weeks of the month of March. That has limited our flying activities. However, that does not imply that we have stopped flying or having adventures.

This time we had to move to our “sanctuary” in Boquerón, Cabo Rojo. A place that always welcomes us when things get difficult with the weather for the rest of the island. In Boquerón, the only drawback is that each pilot who intends to fly there must arrive at dawn, prepare his equipment and be able to take off at sunrise in zero-mile wind conditions. Also, Boquerón, in the SW part of the island, is a very distant place for most pilots. A complete challenge but very well rewarded 💪…

Sunday…

Pilots Samuel Travis, Dave Hargett, David Garber, Luis Ruiz, Ian Darrell, and Gabriel Martínez were present. As expected, the winds were very light, 1 to 3 mph in intensity. Apart from this, there was a lot of humidity in the area. In other words, if the take-off attempt was failed, the paraglider would probably get wet and heavy, making subsequent flight attempts more difficult…

Luis Ruiz and Ian Darrell managed to take off, later followed by David Garber. This time there was mist in the Lajas Valley at some 10 miles of distance. Luis and Ian goes all the way there. This is the first time that Ian has flown near a cloud system, although he did not venture into them.

In the meantime, Samuel decided not to attempt his flight, while Dave missed a couple of takeoff attempts and decided not keep trying. David Garber took his paraglider in flight to “dry” it. As for Gabriel, he was attempting his first zero wind takeoff and also his first time in Boqueron. Luis got off his flight and assisted him in his takeoff, and Gabriel went to fly 💪!!!, Unfortunately he had a tangle in the connectors of his harness that forced him to go down quickly and due to the humidity of the area, a small slip caused him to hurt his propeller and with that we decided that he would not try again in the day. So his flight through the magical Valley will have to wait a little longer, at least he success in make the Front Launch take off in these conditions 💪…

Tuesday…

The strong winds through the whole island keep his momentum, so, we return to Boquerón. This is David’s last flight day on his first stay on the island. Along with David, arrived, Luis Ruiz and his son Ian Darrell, as well as the Puerto Rican pilot Jonathan Luciano, who lives in Chicago. He had come to the island to enjoy the sport of Paramotor but the wind conditions had not allowed it, and he will return to Chicago on Thursday. So the day was today, yes or yes 😉…

After Luis’s instructions and assist, Jonathan was the first to take off in the direction of the Lajas Valley. He was followed by David, Ian, and Luis. They all reached the mist of the Valley that this time located a little more towards the town of Guanica, at some 13 miles of distance from Boqueron. They all flew for about an hour and a half. Everyone’s landing was excellent and that included Jonathan, who was fascinated by the beauty of the place.

Here are some photos of the two days adventure in Boqueron…
