Saturday, September 23, 2023 – Parque del Norte, HATILLO, and a unexpected Paramotor Race from Isabela…

A large group of Team Kamikazes pilots gathered at Parque del Norte in Hatillo. Weather conditions looked good in the morning, although by afternoon, conditions would deteriorate, so we had to hurry.

The morning…

In the morning in Hatillo, as usual, we had a visit from the pilot/student José Luis Hernández, who could not stay for work reasons, but always prepares a refrigerator of snacks for all of us who arrive at the activity. Thank you very much José, very grateful 🙏.

The pilots Pablo, Ricardo (in much better health), Luis Ruiz, Luis Antonio, Wilkins, Noel also arrived. Also, after several months of absence for professional reasons, the pilots Roberto Nieves and Eric Román arrived.

Roberto Nieves and Eric Roman arrival…

Pablo, Wilkins and Luis Ruiz were flying early, while Brenda, Wilkins’ wife, practiced paragliding, assisted by little Noah Enrique. This is the first time we see Brenda control the paraglider as she pleases. Her progress is consistent, and although she says no, her first Paramotor flight is becoming more and more realistic.

As the morning hours passed, the weather conditions began to deteriorate, and thus, Roberto and Eric decided not to go out flying, and in Eric‘s case, he was practicing with his paraglider, assisted by Roberto.

The Race…

It turns out that while we were sharing in the Hatillo activity, at Isabela, specifically at Alberto’s front yard, four pilots were leaving on a “Cross” flight to the activity in Hatillo. These were Sammy Badillo, Edgardo Rivera, Darwin Hernández and Alberto Sabah. The four pilots were on fast paragliders that could battle against the relatively strong wind against them in their way to Hatillo.

Under these conditions, it took about 1 hour to them to complete the crossing.

It was very funny that upon arriving in Hatillo, there was a controversy over who had arrived first, Alberto Sabah or Edgardo Rivera, both using the fast Flow RPM2 paraglider. Here we leave a couple of videos that best describe the controversy that was created, be the judges 🤣.

The Return Flight to Isabela…

At mid day, the pilots, Alberto, Edgardo, Sammy and Darwin, decided to leave early back to Isabela due to the deteriorating weather. And if they did not leave immediately, later on, they would not be able to fly back to Isabela, and they would have to be transported in vehicles, and there was little space for 4 Paramotors and pilots.

Here we made a video of the pilots’ preparations and departures towards Isabela, and in wind conditions greater than 20 mph+, which required them to have great control of the paraglider when taking off. This video went quite viral on the networks with more than 22,200 thousand views+ to date.

With those departures, we picked up our equipment in Hatillo, except for Roberto and Eric who decided to wait for a flight window, after a huge cloud passed through the area.

And so it was, the flight window opened and Roberto was able to take a 30-minute flight, before a larger group of clouds arrived in the area and completely ended the activity. God Bless!!!
