Isabela in the morning…
Short story, but very worthy of being told. It turns out that after several days of adverse flying conditions, in the morning Luis Ruiz met with Alberto Sabah to fly in Isabela. Alberto arrived at Villa Pesquera, as he has done on multiple previous occasions, flying from the yard in front of his house. (And after flying with Luis, he landed again in the yard in front of his house).
Luis Ruiz on this occasion decided to test 2 of his paragliders for personal use. The Apco F1 and the Sky Zorro, both paragliders of the same size, 22 meters. The timing of the flight was ideal, strong and unstable wind conditions, so their differences could be better observed. The difference and behavior of both was markedly different. For details, write to me…
A stop at Pico de Piedra Beach in Aguada…
While Luis Ruiz was returning to his home in Aguada, he observed that the weather conditions were ideal for flying from Pico de Piedra beach in Aguada. The wind came from the ocean along the entire coast of Rincon, Aguada and Aguadilla.
Luis Ruiz communicated his intentions to the pilot from Aguada, Fio López, who signed up for the adventure… After an hour both were in the area preparing their equipment. But also, we noted that cumulus clouds were approaching the area, we had to hurry.
Unexpected Thermal Event…
Fio was the first to Take Off, followed by Luis, and this was where unexpected situations appeared. While flying, Luis was experiencing cross winds and thermals activities in the air. Obviously, the cumulus clouds were changing the weather. And the situation gets worse in a minute, Luis did not see Fio on the air…
Had he landed? Luis find Fio landed in a beach area 2 miles from the takeoff point. So, Luis returned to Pico de Piedra to land and look for him. Once Luis landed, he contacted Fio who told him that he would try to Take Off again and reach Pico de Piedra, and eventually he did!!!
Here we leave the interview we did with Fio. And these situations sometimes happen and we learn from them, and Fio is now a better pilot for sure!!!
